German football legend Gerd Mueller has died at the age of 75 on Sunday (15/8/2021). It is known, the former Bayern Munich star has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease since 2015.
what is Alzeimer
Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disease that causes a gradual decline in memory, thinking and speaking abilities, and changes in behavior. This condition is mostly found in people over 65 years. The exact cause of Alzheimer’s disease is not known. However, Alzheimer’s is thought to occur due to protein deposition in the brain, thereby blocking the intake of nutrients to brain cells.
Symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease
In the early stages, people with Alzheimer’s disease will experience mild or senile memory disorders, such as forgetting the name of objects or places, and forgetting events or the contents of conversations that have recently occurred. Over time, these symptoms will get worse.
In advanced stages, people with Alzheimer’s disease have difficulty speaking or explaining things, have difficulty planning things, have difficulty making decisions, often look confused, and experience personality changes. Patients with Alzheimer’s disease will also usually have difficulty recognizing other people’s faces.
Can it be cured?
Medications can temporarily improve or slow Alzheimer’s symptoms. However, there is no treatment that can completely cure Alzheimer’s or change the disorder in the brain. Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease is the administration of drugs such as rivastigmine and psychotherapy to stimulate and relax the patient’s brain.
